Venetian beads offer the finest craftsmanship for gold or silver foil beads possible. In these beads the foil is layered around a clear crystal glass core and then covered with glass tinted by mineral or metal oxides. Venetian beads are lamp worked from Murano glass, carrying on a centuries old tradition of hand-crafting beads from Moretti Effetre glass rods, the raw material for bead making. Beads made in the lamp-work method are the most time consuming, as each bead is made individually. Using a torch for heat, glass cane (also produced in Murano) is heated to a molten state and wrapped around a metal rod until the desired bead shape is formed.
